Being beside the sea, or as near as I can be, is my happy place. I am grateful for the environment where I live, which has been crucial to my healing, creativity and optimism at what still lies ahead.
The past three weeks have been busy with work, and a wee bit of travelling, most recently, to Bruges, where I attended the PHPCI (Public health Palliative Care International) Conference. Rich dialogue took place, as well as learning how other cities and countries approach compassion in their communities.
This week I watched a client's demeanour change from acceptance to excitement, when they realised that they could alter their own, planned trajectory to reach a desired destination rather than the required end point they thought they had to endure.

Environment
‘A sea glimpse’, he said, with a twinkle in his eye;
‘A place for reflection, for watching clouds scud by’.
Oak beams, wooden floor and skylights way up high,
My heart was racing wildly - this flat I had to buy.
But from the start, it seemed, there was no heart or flow,
Disjointed themes and schemes, as trends would quickly go.
My heart was badly broken from traumas long ago,
But time, the greatest healer, meant I could now let go.
And days did pass, a wet Friday in December,
I moved alone, of which I scarcely remember.
My front door closed, these rooms would be contender
Deep healing could begin, as far back as I remember.
My garden - an oasis of colour and calm, and interest all year round,
With lilac, hydrangea, black elder, hosta, myriad pots on the ground;
A West facing summer house is, likely, where I can be found,
To read, and sit, to think and feel, mostly without a sound.
Consider your environment and what it gives to you,
Can you be authentic, creative, at ease with all you do?
Don’t be afraid to make a change, unto yourself be true,
Your journey might be less than smooth, but you’ll walk away anew.
