Wellness Matter 23.12.2021

Dreams Do Come True.

"I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." Carl Jung.

When I was 17 years old my father suggested that I go to Birmingham University to study Business. But at the time, I couldn’t imagine anything more dull - I wanted excitement and creativity: drama, art or writing and certainly didn’t see myself in business.

Instead, I became a primary school teacher and thoroughly indulged my passion for drama, writing and art, not only being the ‘lead role’ in my own classroom, but often directing and producing school plays, contributing to newsletters, and changing wall displays every 6-8weeks, to create motivating and stimulating displays with my classes.

Fast forward 30 years and after a successful teaching career which finished as Depute Head Teacher with responsibility for an autism provision, here I am running my own coaching business. Dad would roar with laughter if he could see me now, and I know, would be proud.

But every step I have taken, every career choice, house move, relationship change has led me to this place, and I have never been happier, more fulfilled and excited for what the future has to hold.

Since my momentous decision to leave teaching in 2020, I am better able to focus, get less easily distracted, and am much calmer since leaving a role that was no longer a good fit for me.

These past 12 months, I have continued to learn and develop as a coach without a myriad of distractions, and I know that when I finally submitted the paperwork for EMCC Practitioner Accreditation, the evidence shows how much I have matured, achieved and reflected back on since January.

Oh - I achieved my accreditation as Practitioner Coach with EMCC.

Throughout 2021 I met and connected with coaches, therapists, business men and women, who have all struck out on their own, like me, tentatively at first, and steadily growing their businesses. We have so many more points of connection than I had in my previous role, and isolation in the workplace is a thing of the past.

I lean into my core values: Integrity, Connection and Perseverance in all I do and the rewards are there for me to reap: my client base is growing and I have two bigger projects starting in February.

Please take a moment and reflect on just how far YOU have come at the end of this extraordinary year weathering a pandemic, adhering to the ever changing rules, regulations and requirements which help to keep yourselves and others safe.

I am hugely grateful to have such warm and caring readers: thank you for sharing this journey with me.

Wishing you all a VERY Merry Christmas, Fun Festivities and Safe Socialising.

With love and thanks

I will be back after 5th January 2022.
