Time to Face the Music

Well tomorrow the fate is sealed for 51a! I have loved living here – the longest I have ever been in one home, and in many ways experiencing some of the most incredible times in my life, certainly since turning 30. Unfortunately some deeply sad times too and the usual domestic niggles but all in all I have been incredibly happy here but it is time to move on.

I hope whoever buys this ‘Immaculate lower period villa’ will love it as I have.

There are far too many reasons why I have decided to sell now, suffice to say I haven’t blinked or wavered since making the decision a few months ago. It just feels like the right time to move on and I am going to keep that feeling whatever else happens. North Berwick will not be letting go of me yet however as I have no intention of leaving this beautiful town – possibly ever. I am looking forward to ‘smart-sizing’, releasing a little capital for my Cannonmills flat and planning a few treats’ that don’t involve having to weigh up whether to save to pay bills or have a holiday.

Music has always been the such an essential soundtrack to my life and recently I have been compiling playlists, and listening to more music than I have for a long time. There are some great tunes – old and new – that give me such a buzz. I caught the end of Steve Wright’s show this afternoon and heard the top 3 albums ever: The Beatles – Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band’; Abba ’s Greatest Hits and Queen’s Greatest Hits.

The songs that were played could not have been more meaningful: Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds; Dancing Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody. I sang my heart out and smiled at the number of times those songs were played over and over on our ‘Gramophone’ as Dad would call it.

The first album I ever bought was Abba Gold in 1976, although it was released in 1975, and now featured in one of most bought albums ever. It was to be another 3 year years before I bought my 2nd album and that was Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon. Many personal changes in those intervening years and since, yet I remember it all so clearly.

I might not sleep much tonight – my head is buzzing with facts and figures and ‘what if’ scenarios, but tomorrow at 12 I will have to face the music. In fact I intend to have Spotify playing quietly as I await the phone call from the estate agents. I might be weeping or celebrating tomorrow, but either way I am ready to embrace change and enjoy the next leg of this journey called life.

Time to Face the Music – a poem

Dancing singing feeling free

a choice of music to satisfy me

Blues and reggae, rock pop and soul

my taste is eclectic, I love it all.

To share and to give just sing along

who cares what you sound like – please have fun.
